Alice is a boy, named after his grandmother. He prefers to be called Al and thinks his grandmother and her stories of Wonderland are insane.

That is until a certain White Rabbit comes along followed closely by the Dark Prince, the Ace of Spades and he is dragged into a slightly different fantasy world from his grandmother's stories.
